upholstering the iPad
A new iPad! Glossy screen. Shiny case. Apps awaiting. But how to keep your new friend safe, clean and shiny? Easy, accessorize with a soft protective sleeve. Not so easy part? Most sleeves are just too boring. All that style designed into the iPad deserves more than basic black or cutesy prints. That was my […]

The Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game inspired this series of nine art quilts. It was the use of a spectrum of moral and ethical perspectives for character development that caught my attention. And then how to represent them visually. There are two basic choices: the character’s view on law versus chaos and good versus evil. Both options also have a middle-ground of neutral. Plot these choices on a grid, and there are nine possibilities for your character’s “alignment.” Thinking about what “lawful” or “chaos” might look like was challenging and great fun.
D&D Alignment Quilts, 31″ x 31″ framed, $900 each. Please contact me for more information.

blue sky and apple pie
Apple pie. Perfect for breakfast, or anytime. Though maybe not 25 at once! Sunday was the annual Volante Farms Apple Pie contest. And, as last year’s winner, I had the fun of being a guest judge. It turns out that this judging stuff is not as easy as it looks. But it was fun to […]

orphans triumph!
My faux-chenille pillow brought home first place in the Great Summer Orphan Quilt Block Challenge! He and his coaster companions are quite excited to be so honored. Thank you to Hummingbird Highway Quilt Designs and Patterns for sponsoring the contest. Fun!

sewing tip of the day
Write it down. If you think you will remember. Write it down. If you don’t think it’s an important detail. Write it down. If the pad of paper is allllll the way downstairs. Get up, get it, and write it down. If the pen rolled under the ironing board. Get up, get it, and write […]

learning experiences
As my quilt block of the month adventure continues, I’ve definitely found that I have some fabrics that just don’t work for me. I don’t really know if the color choices were just wrong to begin with or if the quilter is lacking in vision. But I do know that I’ve made some blocks that […]

starbucks redux …
or workin’ at the coffee shop (again)Woot, I’ve been published! Well, an article I wrote for the Autumn issue of Altered Couture magazine was published. For their “Menswear Re-Do” series, I submitted a piece detailing how I transformed a discarded suit into a laptop sleeve … and to my delight, they published it! Scouting our local thrift shops, I noticed a […]

workin’ at the coffee shop
You may not have an office, or even your own desk … but that doesn’t mean you can’t work in style at the local coffee shop! So, I put together this set for a traveling friend. To give her laptop a little protection, I made a lightly-padded sleeve. It’s custom fitted to her computer, and […]

sewing tip of the day
Sometimes it’s the little things. Little things like trying to sew a small seam or applique or binding. Little things like a little ripple in the fabric layers; that if left unchecked will become a big pain. Little things like a small bamboo barbecue skewer!? Yep, best little tip I’ve received in ages. Use the […]

dad’s going to have a ball …
Dad’s going to have a ball this Father’s Day … he’s already got enough ties! In honor of the many, many Fathers’ Days he’s spent on the coaches’ bench and in the stands, this year we’re giving him a custom baseball with the kids’ baby pictures. To make it, I dissassembled a cast-off baseball and […]
