    Official ArtPrize opening today.

    If you’re not, and have no idea what I’m talking about … ArtPrize is a public art festival with 950+ artists showing our work at 150+ venues around the city of Grand Rapids. A joyful community event with art, music, food, and, of course, good beer.

    The Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game inspired this series of nine art quilts. It was the use of a spectrum of moral and ethical perspectives for character development that caught my attention. And then how to represent them visually. There are two basic choices: the character’s view on law versus chaos and good versus evil. Both options also have a middle-ground of neutral. Plot these choices on a grid, and there are nine possibilities for your character’s “alignment.” Thinking about what “lawful” or “chaos” might look like was challenging and great fun.
